Kingsbarns Falkland Single Malt Whisky

Kingsbarns Falkland has been distilled from barley sourced less than six miles from the Kingsbarns Distillery. The whisky is a limited release, matured in two types of casks, which maintains balance and develops complexity.

Production Director Isabella Wemyss meticulously selected a combination of Ex-Bourbon and STR (shaved, toasted and re-charred) former Portuguese red wine casks to mature Falkland. The blend of the two casks is 80% first-fill Ex-Bourbon casks and 20% STR red wine casks to add another dimension to the whisky. This is an interesting variation of Kingsbarns' normal distillery style by increasing the STR influence. This introduces several notes of warm spices, red fruits and even some chocolate notes to the whisky.

Kingsbarns Falkland is a special single malt whisky with a rich and varied flavour profile. The aroma of the whisky offers nuances of redcurrants, sweet sugar, vanilla, sherbet, milk chocolate and even chocolate eclairs, reminiscent of a blooming orchard. When you take a sip, you experience the taste of vanilla cream, which is soft and sweet with a pleasant spicy tone of orange. The finish is remarkable with a berry aspect and a warming spicy character. This whisky is a true delight for the senses, offering a deep and complex taste experience that will please any whisky enthusiast.

The inspiration for Falkland is found in the Kingsbarns name. Kingsbarns originates from the barns in the local villages that stored grain for the royal castle in Crail and the palace in Falkland back in the 12th century, so it is particularly fitting to pay homage to it with a Falkland Single Malt, as it encapsulates the distillery's unique location and historical roots.

Kingsbarns limited releases are made with locally grown barley, and water from their own source is the basis of their whisky. It is carefully distilled with a particularly long fermentation process and taken from a high cut point. The Kingsbarns style is characterized by a light elegance as well as fruity and floral notes. With balance in mind, they combine the distillate with the wood by using hand-selected casks to enhance and complement the signature profile.
