A unique combination of spicy rye grains and sweet corn, along with unwavering attention to detail, gives Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey a balance between flavor and smoothness.
The distillation process for Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey is similar to their Small Batch Bourbon, but the difference lies in the mash bill (the recipe). Straight Rye consists of 51% rye instead of corn, which is also the legal requirement for straight rye whiskey.
Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey is produced by the Heaven Hill distillery in Louisville, Kentucky, founded in 1789 by Reverend Elijah Craig. He was the man who discovered the method of making genuine Kentucky Bourbon when he stored his goods in barrels that had been charred in a fire.
Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey presents itself with a medium chestnut color, and when you nose it, you are met with dark chocolate with spices and a subtle hint of smoke. Upon the first taste, you experience a richness of baking spices and sweet honey, supported by pleasantly soft oak notes. The long-lasting and persistent finish rounds off the whiskey, leaving a deep and satisfying aftertaste.
Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey has been awarded several prizes, including Platinum Best of Class at the SIP Awards in 2020, Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2021 and 2022, and a Top 10 of 2020 by Whisky Advocate.
