Quorhum

Quorhum from the Dominican Republic is a series of rums and cane spirits that was introduced in Denmark in the summer of 2013. At Rombo, we have rarely experienced a newly launched rum or cane spirit being as hyped and as quickly popular as Ron Quorhum 30-year Solera was in the early days. The range also included Ron Quorhum Solera 12 years, 15 years, and 23 years, which are/were absolutely delicious. Last but not least, as of this writing, a Quorhum 12 Noir Denmark Edition has just arrived, along with four editions: Encanto 13, Terra Nova 16, Origines 24, and Fundador 30 Aniversario. Please note that these are aged using the Solera method, which means the age stated is the maximum age.

Quorhum – rum and sugarcane spirit from Oliver & Oliver

Quorhum is a Dominican rum and sugarcane spirit brand from the bottler Oliver & Oliver, who are also behind brands such asOphtimus, Cubaney, Presidente, PuntaCana Club and Exquisito. Oliver & Oliver is a family-owned company with roots in Cuba, but now located in the Dominican Republic, where a great deal of our rum and sugarcane spirit comes from. Oliver & Oliver was founded in the 1990s and has since won more than 200 international awards. Quorhum's various editions are created at Oliver & Oliver, who do not have their own distillery, but instead purchase rum blends from various places and then age, blend, and bottle them as finished rum or sugarcane spirit in the Dominican Republic.

What type of rum and sugarcane spirit is Quorhum?

Quorhum is dark rum or sugarcane spirit in the sweet Spanish style, made from molasses and aged using the solera method. The different casks used in the aging process contribute to giving the various editions their individual flavor notes and expressions.

Quorhum is aged using the Spanish solera method. The solera method is a blending and aging system also used in the production of sherry, port, and wine. In short, the system works by blending older vintages with younger vintages in an ingenious pyramid system of rum barrels. This generally means that solera rum is a blend of young and old rum, and that the age indicated on a solera rum refers to the oldest rum in the blend. Often, solera aging does not take place in a real pyramid system, but by manually blending the desired casks.

How old is Quorhum?

Quorhum is aged using the solera method, which means that the age indicated on the bottle is the age of the oldest rum or the oldest sugarcane spirit in the blend – and thus not an expression of the age of the total blend of rum and sugarcane spirit.
